WINTER 2010

When the weather gives you lemons, why not do maintenance on your car? With our recent record cold temperatures these are great days to do the general maintenance that will allow our cars to hit the roads in a few months.   Remove the sticky gasoline residue from your carburetors with spray carb cleaner or completely rebuild the carburetors if necessary. Remove and clean (sandblast preferred) your spark plugs or replace if needed. Install new points if needed or take the opportunity to convert to an electronic ignition system. Check your cap for cracks and wear. If your coil, wires, or rotor are old and showing wear it may be the time for replacement. Change the oil and filter (don’t forget the zinc additive) and grease your grease fittings. When jacking up the car, always use a floor jack with sufficient capacity and never get under a car without using jack stands. Never attempt to use the original jack supplied by your car manufacturer. These are thirty years old or more and should be retired for safety reasons. We will still enjoy seeing them on display at the car shows.   Questions or comments can be directed to 281-433-8533 or e-mail Ron@5RRestorations.com.
